La Basilique du Sacre Cœur
La Basilique du Sacre Cœur de Paris is a Roman Catholic Church dedicated to the Sacred
Heart of Jesus. The construction of this Church started in 1875 and completed
in 1919. Paul Abadie, Honore, Lucien Magne, Jean- Charles Laisne, Jean- Louis
Hulot and Henri-Pierre-Marie Rauline were the architect that took part of this
construction. This building was 273’ (83m) tall. This Church was built to serve
political as well as cultural symbol of the National penance after the France-
Prussian War in 1970. This was the result of class conflicts between Roman
Catholic and other group that included democrats, socialists, and radicals
after the French Revolution. The style used for the design of the bible was
Roman- Byzantine that was unusual at that time. The architecture included
French national symbols such as the portico with the three arches the statue of
Saint Joan Arc and King Saint Louis IX. The inside of the Church involved one
of the world’s largest mosaics which displayed Jesus Christ with stretched arms
like to welcome the people.
