Les Invalides

Les Invalides

Les Invalides is officially known as the L’ Hôtel National de Invalides (The National Residence of the Invalids).   King Louis XIV commissioned this house complex to the house about 4,000 ago or crippled foamed soldiers on November 24, 670.  The architect was Liberal Bruant.   His original design consisted of one large building a royal courtyard and a Church. However, other buildings were added later on.  The architecture style was Baroque. One of the main features is the gold plated dome that rises about the hospital building.   It was designed by Jules Hardouin- Masart who used a style known as Jesuit.   Also he designed the Church too.  Construction started in 671 and completed in 1676. Another great feature is the Latin inscription that says “Louis the Great by his great generosity for his men for the continuation of times, founded this building in 1675.”   During the construction Louis XIV continued to commission to add more buildings. It included a military hospital.  When this project was completed the complex included about 15 courtyards, Church and a royal chapel.  Today,  L’ Hôtel National de Invalides  included several museums such as Musée de L’ Armée, Musée des Plans Relief and the Musée de L’ Ordre de la Libération.   These museums display the French military history
